The DIY hub for residents concerned by the proposed 62 Lake Macdonald Drive Cooroy HIGH-MEDIUM DENSITY HOUSING development

Local residents meet each Monday at 4pm

This site is a resident powered community consultation hub with downloadable resources, site videos, and contact details

On November 11, the Residents Steering Committee met with Mayor Frank Wilkie, councillors Amelia Lorentson and Tom Wegener (and Karen Finzel by voice link). In a significant victory for residents, Council planners have accepted several key aspects of the residents proposal including the retention of the Gympie Messmates, doubling the width of the buffer zones from Dianella Court, doubling the greenspace between the housing and significantly reducing the housing density!! Planning staff are still attempting to convince residents that the contamination must be remediated, full stop - in one noteworthy case even where the site is not contaminated. On 2 August Planning staff had retreated from this position. Council are still paying little regard to cemetery expansion needs. While these initial gains are important, the fight will go on as we push hard to get the outcome that best balances the needs of all stakeholders.

Ask Council now about proposed changes to the Noosa Plan that affect the DENSITY and LOCATION of HOUSING developments

Before engaging neighbours via a conventional consultation process, Council has agreed to sell an allotment of community zoned land to Coast2Bay to build a high-medium density social-affordable-community housing complex beside Cooroy cemetery.
Coast2Bay's proposal is the first of three development lots proposed for the sloping site, high above an existing neighbourhood that already struggles with stormwater runoff. We can see Cooroy's township is suffering similar housing pressure as many parts of Australia, and everyone needs somewhere to live. The problem is the scale of development and fitness for place. It's about good town planning that balances the needs of everyone and considers the serious impacts as well as the benefits Council seek.
